The upcoming Tales of Xillia Remastered introduces a substantial collection of enhancements designed to modernize the classic JRPG experience for both new adventurers and returning fans. Players can look forward to numerous quality-of-life upgrades, fresh customization options, and several entirely new mechanics that refine exploration, combat, and overall gameplay flow.

A standout improvement is the Grade Shop becoming accessible right from your initial playthrough, accompanied by a starting bonus of 5000 GRADE, enough to purchase every available item. Players can toggle certain Grade Shop effects on or off directly from the system menu, though options tied to data transfers, like level adjustments or full chat unlocks, remain restricted until later runs. Additionally, a new “50% Off Items” option has been introduced, allowing every Grade Shop item to be bought at half price.

This remastered edition bundles a significant quantity of downloadable content originally offered for the game. To access this DLC, navigate to Menu > Items > EXTRA. Please note that a small selection of content will not be included.

Several practical features have been integrated to streamline the adventure. An autosave function now triggers automatically after moving between maps or completing story events. For those who prefer uninterrupted exploration, an enemy encounter switch lets you disable random battles via Menu > Config > Battle “Encounter Settings”, though story-based fights will still occur. If you happen to lose a standard battle, a “Retry” option on the Game Over screen lets you jump right back into the fray.

Dialogue during combat and result screens now includes optional subtitles, which can be enabled or disabled in the battle configuration menu. Movement receives a boost with the new dash mode; by holding the assigned button, your character moves faster than the standard run. Equipping winged boots further amplifies this speed.

Navigating the world is now more intuitive thanks to destination markers. A star icon appears on the world map, location map, minimap, and field to indicate your next main story objective, complete with a distance readout. Sub-events are highlighted with exclamation points on location and minimaps, while those with time limits show an hourglass. Unexplored collectibles, such as treasure chests, exploration bags, and Aifread’s Treasure, are clearly marked, making completionist runs more manageable.

Event viewing has been refined with two new options: auto-skip for previously seen scenes, and a manual hold-to-skip function for events and extended dialogues. The menu system now flags new acquisitions, items, skills, or shop updates, with a “NEW!” icon for easy tracking. Active cooking effects can be checked directly from the menu, and item descriptions have been expanded for features like Jet Black Feather exchanges.

Menu navigation is smoother with the addition of a “Return to Title” option and a shortcut to jump directly to the top menu from any submenu. On the Shop Development Material Delivery screen, a single button press selects all eligible bonus materials at once. Equipment screens now show stat changes when swapping gear, and interaction with objects like treasure chests has been relaxed, the action prompt appears when you’re near, not only when facing the object directly.

Camera control receives a welcome upgrade: players can adjust the map camera distance between three settings (close, normal, or far) and customize button mappings for both map and battle controls. Screen brightness is adjustable across 21 levels, and a new overall volume slider lets you balance BGM, sound effects, voice, and movie audio collectively. An audio language option allows switching between Japanese and English voice tracks.

Textual errors from the original have been corrected, and certain item descriptions have received minor adjustments. For Deluxe Edition or Deluxe Upgrade Pack owners, exclusive Battle BGM settings are available, including themes tied to original costume DLC.

Tales of Xillia Remastered launches on Nintendo Switch on October 31, 2025.
