Fujifilm has unveiled the Instax Mini LiPlay Plus, an upgraded version of its popular instant camera designed with selfie enthusiasts in mind. This new model builds on the features of the 2019 original while introducing a more contemporary boxy design and a second rear-facing wide-angle camera. These additions make it simpler to frame and take selfies using the camera’s LCD screen, offering a modern twist on instant photography.
The Instax Mini LiPlay Plus retains the ability to capture digital photos and print them immediately on Fujifilm’s Mini instant film. It also supports audio recordings that accompany each image, though there is a notable change: while the earlier model allowed 10-second audio clips, the Plus version limits recordings to just 3 seconds. These audio snippets can be replayed on the camera itself, through the dedicated Instax Mini LiPlay mobile app, or by scanning a QR code printed on each photo. Fujifilm stores these audio files for up to two years.
Scheduled for release in late October 2025, the camera will be available in sand beige and midnight blue, priced at $234.95. Alongside the camera, Fujifilm is launching a new Soft Glitter Mini instant film featuring gold-accented borders. A pack of ten sheets will retail for $17.99.
A key highlight is the inclusion of a second camera next to the rear display, which matches the resolution of the front camera but uses a wider lens. Both front and rear cameras capture images at 2,560 x 1,920 pixels, as reported by Digital Camera World. The camera’s 3-inch LCD display on the back is slightly larger than before, though the resolution remains unchanged from the earlier model.
One of the standout creative features is the layered photo mode, enabling users to merge images from the front and rear cameras into a single composition. Rather than producing traditional double exposures, this function stacks two separate photos using one of four preset templates.
The companion mobile app enhances the experience by offering editing tools, filters, stickers, and custom frames. It also allows users to share LiPlay Plus images directly to their smartphones or print photos taken with their mobile devices. Additionally, the app enables the smartphone to function as a wireless Bluetooth remote, making it easy to capture group shots with the front-facing camera without stretching your arm.
