The latest Nintendo Direct presentation unveiled exciting new gameplay for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, introducing the Vi-O-La motorcycle as a key traversal and combat tool. Nintendo has expanded on the initial reveal, offering a clearer picture of how this dynamic vehicle integrates into the game’s mechanics and exploration.

Initial reports suggested Vi-O-La would assist in navigating and discovering the world. While the Direct footage provided a glimpse, the newly released details paint a much fuller picture of its capabilities and role in the adventure.

Here is a complete breakdown of the Vi-O-La’s functions in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Samus Aran gains access to a sophisticated motorbike known as the Vi-O-La. This advanced vehicle was originally created by the Lamorn, an ancient space-faring civilization that once inhabited the planet Viewros. The Vi-O-La enables rapid movement across the sprawling, alien landscapes of Viewros, significantly cutting down travel time. Beyond simple traversal, the bike comes equipped with several special maneuvers for engaging hostile forces and interacting with the environment. You can use it to combat enemies and break apart mineral deposits found throughout the world.

A Boost function provides a temporary burst of speed. This surge not only gets you where you’re going faster but can also be used offensively to knock back adversaries or shatter valuable ore clusters.

Executing a Power Slide involves sliding the Vi-O-La sideways while the boost is active. This stylish move sends enemies, ore, and various other objects flying away from the bike’s path, clearing the area effectively.

The Vi-O-La is also armed with a Projectile weapon. This projectile has a homing capability, allowing it to lock onto and pursue targets. It can track up to five enemies simultaneously. After striking its targets, the projectile returns to Samus like a boomerang, ready for the next engagement. Players can summon the Vi-O-La at any point within designated areas. Dismounting immediately shifts the perspective back to Samus on foot, allowing for seamless continuation of the exploration. To survive the perils of the unknown planet and find a way home, Samus will need to master her newfound psychic abilities alongside the versatile Vi-O-La.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch 2 and the current Nintendo Switch on December 4, 2025.
