Microsoft has announced a major overhaul for its popular Game Pass subscription service, introducing three distinct tiers: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. The most exciting development is the immediate addition of 94 new games, including major titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and Diablo 4, alongside the integration of Ubisoft+ Classics. This expansion significantly bolsters the library available to subscribers starting today.

For those on the Game Pass Premium plan, over 40 new games are now accessible, bringing the total available library to more than 200 titles across console and PC. A key benefit of this tier is that Microsoft’s first-party games will be added within one year of their initial release. However, there is an important exception for the Call of Duty franchise. To play new Call of Duty titles on launch day through the service, a Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription is required, unless you opt to buy the game outright. The monthly cost for the Premium tier remains set at $15.

The Game Pass Ultimate tier is undergoing significant changes, including a 50% price increase. Microsoft states this adjustment funds the “biggest upgrade yet” for the program. Subscribers will gain benefits like more day-one game releases, membership to Fortnite Crew, access to Ubisoft+ Classics, and an enhanced Xbox Cloud Gaming experience that supports streaming quality up to 1440p resolution.

Meanwhile, the former Xbox Game Pass Core is being discontinued, with its existing members automatically transitioned to the new Essential plan. The Game Pass Essential tier continues to offer a curated selection of more than 50 games, with recent additions like Hades and Cities: Skylines – Remastered. The price for this entry-level plan holds steady at $10 per month.

It’s helpful to understand the tier hierarchy: Ultimate subscribers have access to the entire catalog of games available on the Premium and Essential plans. Similarly, Premium subscribers can download and play all the titles offered through the Essential tier. This new structure provides clearer options for gamers to choose the plan that best fits their budget and playing habits.
