Sony is significantly expanding the PlayStation Plus Premium library with several highly anticipated classic titles before the year concludes. The company confirmed the upcoming addition of Soul Calibur 3, Tekken 3, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary for subscribers to its top-tier service. This exciting news was a highlight of the recent PlayStation State of Play broadcast, offering a substantial boost to the catalog of retro games available to members.
First appearing on the original PlayStation in 1998, Tekken 3 is frequently celebrated as a landmark title in the fighting genre. Its legacy is built on refined gameplay and the introduction of the innovative “Tekken Force” mode, a side-scrolling beat-’em-up that offered a fresh experience outside the main tournament battles.
Arriving on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, Soul Calibur 3 holds a strong position in the beloved weapons-based fighting series. While it may not always top the praise garnered by its predecessor, it made significant contributions by introducing now-iconic characters such as Zasalamel and Tira. Perhaps its most notable feature was the debut of an extensive character creation system, which players could utilize in the engaging single-player Chronicles of the Sword campaign.
Completing the trio is Tomb Raider: Anniversary, a 2007 ground-up remake of Lara Croft’s inaugural adventure. This version not only modernized the visuals and gameplay mechanics from the 1996 classic but also sought to deepen the narrative and further develop the protagonist’s character, providing a fresh perspective for both new and returning fans.
Sony has not yet specified an exact release date for these three classics on PS Plus Premium, leaving it unclear if they will arrive simultaneously. Beyond these retro additions, the company also outlined the upcoming free games for October. Essential tier subscribers can look forward to claiming Alan Wake 2, Goat Simulator 3, and Cocoon starting October 7th. Furthermore, The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be available for PS Plus Extra members on September 26th.
For those who haven’t yet secured September’s monthly games, time is running out. Titles like Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder remain available to add to your library until October 7th. The latest State of Play presentation was packed with other announcements, including a remaster of the iconic Deus Ex, a detailed preview of Housemarque’s new project Saros, and a first glimpse of Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine game.
