Gamers can now secure their copy of Mario Tennis Fever, the first all-new Mario sports title designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2, with preorders available at major retailers for $70 ahead of its February 12, 2026 launch. The game will be exclusive to the new console generation, continuing Nintendo’s trend of pricing flagship titles at $70.
The game made its debut during the Super Mario 40th Anniversary segment of the latest Nintendo Direct on September 12. That same presentation also introduced Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, a dual release arriving much sooner on October 2 and playable on both the original Switch and the upcoming Switch 2.
While Super Mario Strikers recently joined the GameCube library for Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers, Mario Tennis Fever stands as the first entirely new Mario sports experience built from the ground up for Nintendo’s next hardware.
Players can look forward to both local and online multiplayer modes supporting up to four competitors. Control options include traditional button and stick configurations, as well as motion controls using the new Joy-Con 2. A roster of 38 familiar Mushroom Kingdom characters will be available, each bringing their unique style to the court. The “Fever” in the title refers to the introduction of Fever Rackets, 30 special items that produce wild effects like freezing sections of the court or shrinking an opponent’s racket.
A new Adventure Mode introduces a quirky storyline where Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, and Waluigi are transformed into babies by monsters on a mysterious island. Donkey Kong also appears in the campaign, though he notably remains his adult self. The baby-fied heroes must relearn tennis from scratch to break the curse and escape.
Additional modes include Trial Towers, Tournament, Ranked Matches, Online Room, and Mix It Up. The game draws inspiration from Super Mario Bros. Wonder by incorporating Talking Flowers as match commentators in Tournament Mode and introducing unpredictable Wonder Effects during Mix It Up sessions.
Mario Tennis Aces, the previous entry in the series, launched in 2018 and was also the first Mario sports game on the original Switch. Thanks to the backward compatibility of the Nintendo Switch 2, players will still be able to enjoy earlier titles like Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf: Super Rush, and Mario Strikers: Battle League on the new system.
Beyond Mario Tennis Fever, the Nintendo Direct also confirmed release dates for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Preorders are open for seven new Amiibo figures, including a duo inspired by Super Mario Galaxy. Collectors may also want to check out Rosalina’s Storybook, a hardcover adaptation of the in-game book from Mario Galaxy, available for preorder at $25.
For those still in need of the new hardware, Amazon is currently accepting preorders for the Pokémon Legends: Z-A Switch 2 Bundle ahead of its October 16 release. A full list of games featured in the Nintendo Direct that are available for preorder can be found below.
