This week’s hour-long Nintendo Direct delivered a spectacular lineup of announcements, headlined by the reveal of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the long-awaited release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Nintendo is launching six major titles in just two months, beginning with the Mario Galaxy collection on October 2 and concluding with Metroid Prime 4 on December 4. Sandwiched between these heavy hitters are Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and Kirby Air Riders, alongside notable third-party releases like the timed console exclusive Hades II, published by Nintendo.
Seven new Amiibo figures were unveiled during the presentation: three tied to Metroid Prime 4, two for Kirby Air Riders, and two from Super Mario Galaxy. Fans can also look forward to fall book releases, including Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective and Rosalina’s Storybook.
A wide range of upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and original Switch games and accessories are now available for preorder at Amazon. This includes both Nintendo-published titles and first-party hardware. For those yet to own the new console, Amazon opened preorders for the Switch 2 Pokemon Legends: Z-A Bundle on September 12, marking the first time the system can be purchased directly without additional steps. However, the Mario Kart World Bundle and standalone console still require an invitation request.
Pricing for Nintendo’s major franchises has sparked considerable discussion. While Mario Kart World carries an $80 price tag, other flagship Switch 2 exclusives like Metroid Prime 4, Hyrule Warriors, and Kirby Air Riders are priced at $70. Original Switch editions of Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are set at $60. An interesting exception is Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, which is a physical original Switch game priced at $70 but includes a free upgrade pack for Switch 2.
It’s worth noting that not every game shown is exclusive, titles like Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade were also featured. Hades II, though a timed console exclusive published by Nintendo, will also launch on PC.
Preorders are now live for the new Amiibo line, with Metroid Prime 4 offerings split across two release dates. The large Samus & Vi-O-La motorcycle figure is $40 and launches November 6 alongside a new $30 Samus Aran Amiibo. A Sylux Amiibo will release the same day as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The two Kirby Air Riders Amiibo are priced at $50 each, making them the most expensive figures to date. These are effectively double packs, as the Warp Star and Winged Star Machines are sold separately. Super Mario Galaxy fans must wait until April 2026 for the new Mario and Rosalina Amiibo, each priced at $40 and featuring more elaborate stands than typical releases.
These seven new figures join an existing lineup of eight Zelda, Street Fighter, and Donkey Kong Switch 2 Amiibo. Amazon and other major retailers are currently offering discounts on many Amiibo that launched with the Switch 2.
In related hardware news, Nintendo raised prices on select first-party accessories in early August. The Pro Controller and Joy-Con 2 each saw a $5 increase, though not all official accessories were affected. The list of available gear also includes popular licensed third-party items like Samsung’s 256GB microSD Express Card and Hori’s Piranha Plant Camera, a visually striking but functionally limited accessory.
