Debuting at the Munich auto show, the iX3 represents BMW’s strategic pivot toward a software-defined future. It serves as the flagship for an ambitious plan that will see 40 additional Neue Klasse models introduced within the next two years. This aggressive rollout underscores the automaker’s commitment to reclaiming leadership in an increasingly competitive EV landscape, particularly as Chinese manufacturers gain global influence.

Although BMW has not released the exact battery capacity, the company confirms an EPA-estimated range exceeding 400 miles for the iX3. While this falls short of earlier projections, it still positions the vehicle among the longest-range electric SUVs available. The initial iX3 50 xDrive variant features all-wheel drive, producing 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque. It is scheduled to arrive in U.S. showrooms by mid-2026 with a starting price of $60,000.
A major highlight of the iX3 is its advanced computing system, centered around the “Heart of Joy” controller. This centralized unit consolidates functions typically managed by multiple processors into a single, powerful “superbrain.” The result is smoother handling, improved traction management, and a more responsive driving experience.
