Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl on PS5 introduces immersive DualSense controller features that elevate the survival horror experience through advanced haptic feedback and spatial audio integration. These enhancements are exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version, offering a deeper layer of interaction that PC and Xbox players won’t experience.

During a recent interview, technical producer Evgeniy Kulik from GSC Game World shared insights into how the studio leveraged the unique capabilities of the DualSense controller. He emphasized that developing for PlayStation was a fresh and exciting challenge for the team, allowing them to explore new ways to pull players into the bleak and dangerous world of the Zone.

One of the standout implementations involves the adaptive triggers, which have been finely tuned to replicate the distinct feel of various firearms. Each weapon offers a unique resistance and recoil sensation, making every shot fired through the controller genuinely tactile. This attention to detail stems from the team’s collaboration with weapon enthusiasts and the use of authentic gun recordings to ensure realism.

Kulik expressed particular enthusiasm for the controller’s built-in speaker, which he considers his favorite feature. In-game elements like radio transmissions and system notifications now emit directly from the DualSense, simulating the effect of a radio resting on the player’s shoulder. This directional audio trick enhances situational awareness and deepens the sense of isolation and tension central to the Stalker experience.

Additional features such as the touchpad and light bar have also been integrated thoughtfully, though Kulik did not elaborate on those specifics. The overall goal, he noted, was to use every tool available to make the player feel more connected to the game, whether through sound, touch, or visual cues.

Originally launched in late 2024 on Xbox and PC platforms, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is scheduled to arrive on PS5 and PS5 Pro on November 20, 2025. This delayed release has allowed GSC Game World to fully tailor the experience to Sony’s hardware, promising a version that stands apart in its sensory depth and atmospheric intensity.
