▼ Summary

– MindsEye suffers from severe technical issues, including bugs, low frame-rates, and crashes, making it a poor purchase at its current price.
– The game’s performance on all consoles is subpar, with frequent frame-rate drops below 30fps, screen tearing, and uneven frame-pacing.
– Xbox Series S performs the worst, with significant graphical downgrades, blurry visuals, and frequent crashes compared to other consoles.
– Despite its flaws, MindsEye shows potential in areas like car physics and character rendering, but these are overshadowed by gameplay bugs and poor AI behavior.
– The developer faces urgent quality control challenges, and the game is currently not recommended in its present state on any platform.

MindsEye continues to disappoint players with persistent performance issues, even after multiple patches aimed at fixing its technical shortcomings. The game, developed by Build a Rocket Boy, launched with significant problems, and despite updates, it remains plagued by bugs, unstable frame rates, and frequent crashes. At its current price point of £55 or $60, it’s hard to justify purchasing the game in its present state.

Performance across all platforms, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and even the PS5 Pro, remains subpar. The game is locked at 30fps with inconsistent frame pacing, leading to noticeable judder and screen tearing. Even the PS5 Pro, which offers a slight resolution boost to 1296p, fails to deliver a smooth experience. CPU limitations appear to be the primary bottleneck, particularly in dense city areas with heavy traffic and destruction effects.

Xbox Series S suffers the most, with downgraded textures, lower shadow quality, and frequent dips below 20fps. The game’s upscaling struggles to maintain clarity, especially in high-speed sequences like chase missions. On all consoles, image quality remains disappointingly blurry, further detracting from the experience.

Gameplay is also hindered by erratic frame pacing, making precise actions, like aiming or navigating tight spaces, needlessly difficult. During intense moments, frame rates can plummet into the teens, severely impacting playability. The Xbox Series X version fares slightly better than base PS5, but not enough to make it a preferable choice. Meanwhile, Series S players face outright crashes, forcing restarts mid-mission.

Despite these issues, MindsEye shows glimpses of potential. The vehicle physics and suspension modeling provide a satisfying sense of weight, and character rendering in cutscenes is impressively detailed. However, these positives are overshadowed by glaring flaws. Enemy AI frequently malfunctions, cars react unrealistically to minor collisions, and mission-breaking bugs are far too common.

The game feels unfinished, as if it needed months more in development before release. While there’s a foundation for something enjoyable here, the current state makes it impossible to recommend. Build a Rocket Boy faces an uphill battle to salvage MindsEye’s reputation, whether through rapid fixes or a complete re-release remains to be seen. For now, players are better off waiting to see if future updates can turn things around.
