The annual CES showcase once again set the stage for the year’s most anticipated television innovations, with leading brands unveiling cutting-edge displays that push the boundaries of brightness, color, and design. This year’s highlights included the triumphant return of a legendary ultra-slim model, groundbreaking advancements in mini-LED and micro RGB technology, and a surprising new twist on LED backlighting that could change how we see color on screen.

LG’s iconic Wallpaper TV has made a dramatic comeback with the new W6 model. This television redefines minimalist design, measuring a mere nine millimeters in thickness. It features carved linear patterns around its edges that provide structural support while adding a stylish accent. The set mounts completely flush to the wall, and its connectivity is managed by the wireless Zero Connect Box 2.0, which is thirty-five percent smaller than before and supports 4K signals at up to 165Hz on all HDMI ports, a first for any television. A single, thin power cable is the only visible wire. Picture quality is driven by LG’s Primary RGB Tandem 2.0 panel and Hyper Radiant Color Technology, promising a twenty percent brightness increase over last year’s flagship. It also processes color with 12-bit depth for cleaner images from standard 10-bit sources.

TCL commanded significant attention by focusing entirely on its new X11L SQD-Mini LED model. This television utilizes a unique blue LED backlight system, rather than the RGB arrays shown by others, and TCL claims it can achieve a staggering 10,000 nits of peak brightness with up to 20,000 local dimming zones. It also covers the full BT.2020 color gamut. These feats are enabled by two proprietary developments: a new formulation of quantum dots and an enhanced color filter from TCL’s panel division, CSOT. The result is spectacular color reproduction and exceptional control over unwanted light bloom. This innovation comes at a premium, with the smallest 75-inch model starting at $6,999.99.

Samsung made a powerful statement at its First Look event with the massive 130-inch R95H Micro RGB TV, the company’s largest micro RGB display to date. The set features the Timeless Frame design, creating a striking illusion that the screen is floating within its metal enclosure. It boasts 100 percent coverage of the BT.2020 color space, a glare-free screen, and support for HDR10+ Advanced. It’s important to note that this particular model is currently a prototype, showcasing the potential of the technology rather than an imminent retail product.

Not to be overshadowed, Hisense, the pioneer of the RGB LED trend, has evolved its technology with the new 116-inch UXS. This model introduces a fascinating change: it’s now an RGCB LED TV. Hisense has added a cyan LED to the traditional red, green, and blue array in the backlight. The company states this addition smooths the transition between blue and green light for better color purity and reduces blue light output in the spectrum linked to eye strain and sleep disruption. The extra cyan LED also allows the TV to exceed the BT.2020 color standard, reaching 110 percent coverage.

Finally, LG’s flagship G6 OLED is shaping up to be a formidable contender for the year’s best television. It shares the advanced Primary RGB Tandem panel and Hyper Radiant Color Technology with the W6, targeting a similar twenty percent brightness boost over its predecessor. LG promises deeper black levels and has incorporated a new reflection-free technology with less than 0.5 percent reflectance. This ensures those inky blacks remain pristine regardless of the room’s lighting conditions, solidifying OLED’s reputation for perfect contrast.
