New Necrons Detachments: C’tan Shards & Destroyers Dominate

▼ Summary
– The Pantheon of Woe detachment rule is called Cosmic Distortion, which describes a harmful quantum and molecular effect on enemies.
– This effect is caused by having multiple C’tan shards in close proximity to the enemy.
– Necrons Monster units have an aura ability called Distortion Fields that affects enemy units within 6 inches.
– While within this aura, enemy units are “unravelling,” which improves the Armour Penetration of attacks against them by 1.
– A Monster unit can suffer 3 mortal wounds at the start of a phase to increase its Distortion Fields aura range to 9 inches until the phase ends.
The Pantheon of Woe detachment rule introduces a devastating new strategic layer for Necron commanders, focusing on the raw, reality-warping power of their most monstrous units. This rule, named Cosmic Distortion, leverages the terrifying presence of multiple C’tan shards to inflict molecular decay upon enemy forces. The very fabric of existence begins to fray for any foe caught within the aura of these ancient star gods, making them far more vulnerable to incoming fire.
Necrons Monster units in your army gain a powerful new aura ability called Distortion Fields. While an enemy unit is within six inches of one of your monsters, it is considered to be unraveling. This state of existential decay has a brutal mechanical effect: each time an attack targets that unraveling enemy unit, the Armour Penetration characteristic of that attack is improved by one. This effectively strips away the enemy’s defenses, allowing even basic weaponry to punch through hardened armor with greater ease.
The tactical depth of this rule is further enhanced by a calculated risk-reward system. At the very start of each game phase, you have a critical choice to make for each of your Necrons Monster units. You can choose for that unit to suffer three mortal wounds. If you accept this self-inflicted damage, you are granted a significant payoff: until the end of that phase, the range of that unit’s Distortion Fields aura ability is dramatically increased from six inches to nine inches. This allows you to project the debilitating unraveling effect over a much wider area of the battlefield, potentially ensnaring multiple key enemy units in your web of cosmic distortion.
This mechanic encourages aggressive positioning and careful phase-by-phase management. Deciding when to injure your own valuable monster to expand its threatening presence becomes a core part of the detachment’s strategy. The ability to suddenly widen the aura’s reach can catch an opponent off guard, forcing them to reconsider their movements and exposing more of their army to your enhanced firepower. It perfectly embodies the relentless and self-sacrificing nature of the Necrons, who view their physical forms as mere vessels to achieve absolute dominion.
