The stealth shooter Espire: MR Missions is now available as a standalone early access title on the Quest platform, offering a dedicated mixed reality experience. For players who previously purchased the full VR game Espire 2: Stealth Operatives, this new release is available at no extra cost. This move separates the evolving mixed reality gameplay from the core virtual reality experience, allowing each to be developed and optimized independently.
This new title builds directly on the mixed reality mode first introduced in Espire 2, but it has been significantly expanded. The game features a total of 29 unique missions that are dynamically generated to fit within a player’s own physical space. The mission structure is divided between 21 compact, single-room operations and eight more expansive missions that span multiple rooms. Players will navigate these personalized environments to eliminate guards and avoid various traps, with the layout changing each time based on their play area.
Developer Digital Lode explained the decision to launch a separate product, stating that maintaining the MR mode within the larger Espire 2 framework became increasingly challenging as mixed reality technology advanced. The team also recognized that roomscale mixed reality provides a distinctly different type of engagement compared to the fully immersive, traditional VR missions of the main game. Consequently, Espire 2 will revert to being a purely VR-focused title, and its existing mixed reality support will be phased out in the future.
Because of this shift, the studio is offering Espire: MR Missions for free to anyone who purchased Espire 2 on Quest prior to this standalone launch. New buyers of Espire 2 will receive a discounted rate for the MR Missions title. The early access version of MR Missions launches with several new additions, including five brand-new missions and a fresh target shooting game mode. Digital Lode reports major upgrades to the core “Espire Spatial Adaptation System,” which handles the procedural generation of levels to match a user’s environment, alongside some streamlined game mechanics. A completely redesigned user interface tailored for mixed reality interaction is also part of the package.
Espire: MR Missions is priced at $8.99 during its early access period on the Meta Quest store. While a final release date has not been set, the developer has confirmed it is preparing a detailed roadmap that will outline upcoming new missions, additional game modes, fresh features, and more content for the title.
