The new Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense controller offers a vibrant and detailed design that honors PlayStation’s visual identity while delivering the premium features fans expect. This limited-release model combines multiple shades of blue with subtle nods to PlayStation history, creating a collector’s item that stands out from standard controllers. Available in select regions including the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Chile, the controller retails for $84 and has seen fluctuating availability at Walmart.
We had the opportunity to examine the Icon Blue DualSense firsthand, and its bold color scheme immediately catches the eye. The controller blends several iconic blue tones, a color strongly associated with modern PlayStation interfaces like loading screens, while alternating between matte and glossy finishes. Cleverly embedded PlayStation symbols and characters enhance the design, making it more than just a simple color variant.
Unboxing the controller reveals its striking two-tone blue body. The outer shell uses a deeper blue, while the inner sections and thumbsticks feature a lighter hue. A matte finish across the front improves grip and resists fingerprints. The touchpad, a highlight of the DualSense experience alongside its advanced haptic feedback, includes subtly printed Circle, X, Square, and Triangle symbols. These icons lie flush with the surface and become more visible under certain lighting.
The underside of the triggers sports a glossy, darker blue, adding a touch of elegance. Perhaps the most thoughtful detail appears on the controller’s back: light-blue Katakana characters spelling “PlayStation,” paying homage to the brand’s Japanese roots. Just above this, a textured coating, visible under magnification, reveals a pattern of classic PlayStation shapes. While other DualSense controllers have similar textures, the blue backdrop makes this feature especially noticeable.
Internally, the Icon Blue edition retains all the technical capabilities that define the DualSense, from precise haptic vibrations to adaptive triggers and responsive motion sensors. It works seamlessly with any PS5 game that supports these features. The only minor letdown is the inclusion of a standard black USB-C cable rather than a color-coordinated one.
Though not as overtly nostalgic as the 30th Anniversary models, the Icon Blue Special Edition stands as a tasteful tribute to PlayStation’s aesthetic legacy. For collectors and dedicated fans, this controller merges visual appeal with top-tier performance. Given its limited production run, interested buyers should act quickly to secure one while supplies last.
