Microsoft is rolling out a new preview feature for its ROG Ally gaming handheld: default game profiles designed to automatically enhance performance and extend battery life. These profiles will optimize frame rates and power usage for 40 popular titles, such as Fortnite, Gears of War: Reloaded, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Forza Horizon 5, and Minecraft, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.
When the ROG Ally is running on battery power, it will apply tailored “per-game” profiles to supported games. Activating a profile allows the device to increase frames per second to hit a specific performance target, effectively sacrificing a small amount of battery life for a more fluid gaming experience. On the flip side, if a game is exceeding its target FPS, the system will cap the frame rate to conserve power.
For instance, Microsoft highlights that the default profile for Hollow Knight: Silksong can deliver close to an extra hour of battery life compared to Performance mode, all while maintaining a smooth 120 FPS. Other games benefiting from these profiles include Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Sea of Thieves, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, with more titles expected to be added over time.
Gamers have full control over these settings through the Armoury Crate Command Center, where default profiles can be enabled or disabled at any time.
