Valve Reveals Steam Machine Pricing Details

▼ Summary

– Valve has not announced a price for the new Steam Machine, aiming for a competitive and affordable price point that provides good value.
– The Steam Machine is scheduled for release in Spring 2026, with preorders expected to open before that time.
– An industry expert suggests a $400 price for an entry-level model with a controller would be ideal to compete with consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
– Pricing above $500 could risk the Steam Machine being seen as an expensive niche PC rather than an accessible living-room gaming option.
– Valve also did not disclose prices for the new Steam Controller and Steam Frame VR headset, and is developing a MOBA game called Deadlock.

Valve has chosen not to reveal a specific price for its upcoming Steam Machine, but the company’s hardware engineer, Yazan Aldehayyat, emphasized that the goal is to deliver a competitive price that reflects the value offered. In a recent interview, Aldehayyat noted that affordability remains a central focus, especially in the current economic climate where inflation and tariffs affect consumer spending. He explained that every hardware and feature decision was made with accessibility in mind, aiming to keep the Steam Machine as affordable as possible for gamers.

Aldehayyat elaborated, “If you’re trying to make a PC that has similar features and similar performance, I think the Steam Machine is going to be a really competitive price to that and provide really good value.” He pointed out that the need for an affordable gaming solution is one reason why Valve believes the Steam Machine makes sense right now. While the company has not shared exact figures, Aldehayyat’s comments suggest that Valve is targeting a price point that can compete with custom-built PCs and existing consoles.

Industry expert Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics offered a more concrete suggestion, proposing that $400 is the “sweet spot” for an entry-level Steam Machine bundle that includes a controller. Elliott argued that this price would send a strong message, especially as console manufacturers have been increasing their prices. He noted, “A digital PS5 costs $499, while the Xbox Series X Digital is $599.” According to Elliott, setting the price above $500 could be risky, potentially positioning the Steam Machine as a niche, high-end PC rather than an accessible living-room gaming device.

Valve also kept pricing under wraps for its new Steam Controller and Steam Frame virtual reality headset. The Steam Machine is scheduled for release in Spring 2026, with preorders expected to open ahead of the launch. In addition to hardware developments, Valve is working on a secretive MOBA titled Deadlock, which is currently in testing but has no confirmed release date or detailed information available to the public.
