This ambitious blueprint, known as the Mexico 2026 Social World Cup project, aims to create a lasting legacy that extends far beyond the final whistle. Central to this vision are two key digital innovations: a secure ticket resale platform and a dedicated tourism application designed to enhance the visitor experience.
President Claudia Sheinbaum recently emphasized that the goal is to forge a sporting legacy that transcends the tournament itself. She noted that with the world’s attention focused on Mexico, the event presents a unique opportunity to showcase the nation’s profound cultural heritage and its ongoing progress toward becoming a more equitable and democratic society.
Scheduled for June and July of 2026, the World Cup will be jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The Mexican proposal outlines an extensive program featuring over 177 official parties and 5,000 related activities. It also includes 74 separate tournaments and soccer cups open to students, workers, and the general public. A significant component involves the Vive Saludable program, which will launch nearly 1,500 initiatives to encourage healthy living, alongside a major project to refurbish 4,200 public sports facilities and fields across the country.
The plan also features several record-breaking attempts to generate global excitement. Organizers are targeting three Guinness World Records: for the largest human image formed by people wearing soccer shirts, the largest soccer class ever held, and the largest soccer-themed mural. Adding a futuristic twist, a robotics world cup will run concurrently, where autonomous robots, designed and programmed by high school and university students from around the globe, will compete. The call for entries for this robotic competition opened on November 28, and all matches will be broadcast live at the Mexican host venues.
A cornerstone of the tourist experience will be the “Conoce México” app, a name that translates to “Get to Know Mexico.” Developed through a collaboration between the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Tourism, this application promises an intuitive and user-friendly interface. It will provide both domestic and international fans with real-time information on match schedules, venue details, transportation routes, local services, and a full calendar of cultural events, ensuring visitors can navigate the country with ease.
