A new collaboration between Ericsson and Zain Bahrain aims to significantly enhance mobile broadband capacity and coverage throughout the Kingdom of Bahrain. This initiative supports Zain’s ongoing digital transformation and aligns with its commitment to delivering superior customer experiences. The project will utilize advanced radio access technology to improve both 4G and 5G network performance, ensuring users benefit from faster speeds and more reliable connectivity.
The expansion will incorporate several of Ericsson’s latest Radio Access Network (RAN) products, including the Triple-band Radio 4823. This technology effectively doubles uplink throughput without requiring new antenna installations, making upgrades more efficient and cost-effective. Another key component is the AIR 3285, a dual-band FDD Massive MIMO radio designed with a compact and lightweight form factor. Its streamlined design simplifies deployment at high-capacity sites, accelerating rollout timelines. Additionally, the Triple low-band Radio 4486 will be deployed to optimize low-band spectrum usage and extend connectivity to users at the cell edge.
These technological enhancements will allow Zain Bahrain to make the most of its existing spectrum resources, improving both network efficiency and user satisfaction. As demand for high-speed mobile data continues to grow, these upgrades will help the operator stay ahead of consumer and business needs.
Ammar Al-Ketbi, Acting CEO of Zain Bahrain, commented on the strategic importance of the partnership, stating that investing in modern and sustainable infrastructure is essential for meeting customer expectations. He emphasized that the improvements will benefit a wide range of users, from gamers and entrepreneurs to large enterprises, by providing faster and more advanced digital solutions.
Petra Schirren, President of Ericsson Gulf, echoed this sentiment, noting that the expansion reflects a shared dedication to advancing digital infrastructure in Bahrain. She highlighted Ericsson’s role in helping Zain Bahrain address increasing customer demands while maintaining robust and high-performing network standards.
This agreement builds on a long-standing relationship between the two companies, which has previously included the deployment of 5G Standalone technology in the region. Their continued collaboration underscores a mutual focus on innovation and the delivery of next-generation digital services across Bahrain.
