▼ Summary

– The US version of TikTok is experiencing service issues again due to an outage at Oracle’s data center in Ashburn, Virginia.
– The disruption began early Tuesday afternoon, with user reports spiking around 1PM Eastern Time.
– TikTok USDS confirmed that US users may face temporary lags in posting content while Oracle works to resolve the problem.
– This is the second major service disruption since a January deal transferred majority ownership away from ByteDance to a US-based entity.
– The previous outage in February was also caused by a power failure at an Oracle data center shortly after the new ownership structure took effect.

TikTok users in the United States are facing another round of service problems, this time stemming from a technical failure at Oracle’s data centers. The disruption, which began affecting the platform on Tuesday afternoon, marks the second significant outage since a major ownership restructuring moved the app’s US operations under a new entity earlier this year.

Reports on Downdetector showed a sharp increase in user complaints around 1 PM Eastern Time, pinpointing issues primarily with posting new content. TikTok USDS, the joint venture now managing the app stateside, acknowledged the problem in a social media post. The company stated that American users might encounter temporary lags or delays when trying to upload videos while its technology partner, Oracle, works to fix the underlying cause.

The current trouble is linked to Oracle’s data center located in Ashburn, Virginia. This incident follows a nearly identical pattern from just last month, when a separate outage in February also disrupted service for US TikTok users. That earlier interruption was attributed to a power failure at an Oracle facility, occurring shortly after the new ownership and operational model took effect.

In January, a landmark deal shifted majority ownership of TikTok’s US operations away from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The arrangement established TikTok USDS, a partnership that includes Oracle as a key technology provider responsible for hosting user data and ensuring secure operations. These back-to-back service disruptions highlight the growing pains associated with this complex technical migration and infrastructure transition. For millions of creators and everyday users, the repeated interruptions serve as a reminder of the platform’s ongoing evolution and the critical role its backend partners play in maintaining a seamless experience.
