– This overtaking occurred between late October and early November, following a period of consistent growth for Threads.
– X still leads Threads in daily mobile users within the United States, but its US user base has halved in the past year.
– In contrast, X attracts significantly more daily web visitors (145.4 million) than Threads does (8.5 million).
– Despite its mobile lead, Threads’ combined daily user total is still far behind X’s overall user base across all platforms.

Meta’s Threads platform has reached a significant milestone, now reportedly drawing more daily users on mobile devices than its competitor, X. Data from analytics firm Similarweb indicates that as of early January, Threads boasted approximately 141.5 million daily active users on iOS and Android globally. This figure surpasses the estimated 125 million daily mobile users for X. The shift in momentum occurred gradually between late October and early November, suggesting the change is rooted in sustained growth rather than a sudden reaction to recent platform controversies.

While Threads leads in global mobile app usage, the competitive landscape is more nuanced when examined regionally. In the United States, X still maintains an advantage in mobile user numbers, though the data shows Threads is steadily gaining ground. Notably, the report highlights that X’s daily active mobile user count in the U.S. is roughly half of what it was just one year ago, indicating a notable decline for the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The story changes dramatically when looking at overall web traffic. X continues to dominate significantly in this area, attracting around 145.4 million daily visitors via web browsers as of mid-January. In stark contrast, Threads’ web presence remains minimal, with only about 8.5 million daily visitors. This vast disparity underscores a key challenge for Meta’s text-based social network.

When combining mobile and web usage, the total daily user gap between the two platforms becomes even clearer. Threads and its web traffic together reach an estimated 150 million users daily. X, however, commands a much larger combined audience of over 270 million daily users across all platforms. This illustrates that while Threads has made impressive strides in capturing mobile attention, it still has considerable work ahead to challenge X’s overall market position and user base. The competition between these two major social media services is clearly evolving across different fronts of digital engagement.
