Google has expanded the availability of its Gemini AI assistant directly within the Chrome browser for iPhone and iPad users. This integration, which began rolling out on desktop versions last year, places a powerful AI tool just a tap away in the mobile browsing experience. The update replaces the familiar Google Lens icon in the address bar with a new symbol, making advanced AI functionalities accessible without navigating away from a webpage.
Once the feature is active on your device, a distinct new icon appears in the left corner of Chrome’s address bar. This icon resembles a notebook page adorned with the recognizable Gemini star. Tapping it opens a sidebar where you can interact with the AI. You can ask Gemini questions about the content currently on your screen or request concise summaries of lengthy articles. This allows for quick information retrieval or distillation without interrupting your browsing flow.
It’s important to note that the in-browser version offers a more focused set of tools compared to the full Gemini website or dedicated app. You won’t find the same breadth of creative or extended conversational features here. However, for obtaining fast clarifications or digesting the key points of a webpage, this streamlined integration proves highly practical.
Accessing the feature requires a few specific conditions. You must be signed into your Google account within the iOS Chrome app. The functionality is not supported in Incognito mode for privacy reasons, and currently, it only processes prompts in English. If you don’t see the new Gemini icon, first ensure your Chrome app is fully updated via the App Store. Since this is a gradual server-side rollout, even with the latest app version, some users may need to wait a short while longer for the feature to become active on their devices. Google confirms the update is being distributed progressively and is not yet available to all users simultaneously.
