After selecting their standard clothing size, users receive multiple generated images and can choose one to set as their default profile for future virtual fittings.
While this new selfie-based method offers greater convenience, the platform maintains flexibility. Users who prefer can still upload a traditional full-body photo or browse and select from a diverse gallery of models representing various body types and sizes. This update is initially rolling out to users within the United States.
The virtual try-on feature itself debuted last July, integrated across Google’s ecosystem including Search, Google Shopping, and Google Images. It allows shoppers to visualize apparel from the vast Google Shopping Graph by simply tapping on a product listing and selecting the “try it on” icon. This development is part of Google’s broader strategic investment in AI-driven shopping experiences, which also includes a standalone application named Doppl. This dedicated app is designed to help users see how different outfits might look on them through artificial intelligence.
Further expanding these capabilities, Google recently updated Doppl with a new shoppable discovery feed. This feed presents personalized outfit recommendations, allowing users to explore new styles and immediately try them on virtually. Nearly every item displayed is directly purchasable, with convenient links to the respective retailers. The feed utilizes AI-generated videos showcasing real products and curates suggestions based on an individual’s inferred style preferences. Although some consumers may be hesitant about AI-curated content, this format aligns with the engaging, short-form video style popularized by platforms like TikTok and Instagram, presenting products in a familiar and dynamic way.
