Imagine being able to capture every fleeting thought, brilliant idea, or important reminder simply by whispering into your hand. The Stream Ring, a new AI-powered smart ring from the company Sandbar, aims to do just that, offering a discreet way to organize your mental notes without reaching for your phone or speaking aloud.

Many of us experience a constant internal dialogue, planning our day during a morning commute, reflecting on conversations while in the shower, or brainstorming solutions during a bike ride. These thoughts often vanish as quickly as they appear. The Stream Ring provides a solution, allowing you to record these moments effortlessly. After two years in development, Sandbar has officially launched, led by cofounders Mina Fahmi and Kirak Hong, both formerly of CTRL-Labs and later Meta. The startup has secured $13 million in venture funding to bring its vision to life.

Described by Fahmi as a “mouse for voice,” the device simplifies voice interaction by eliminating common hurdles. You don’t need a wake word or to pull out your phone; just raise your hand and speak directly into the ring. Even whispering works perfectly, making it ideal for crowded or quiet environments. The ring doesn’t store audio recordings. Instead, it transcribes your speech into text, which you can review later in the companion Stream app.

A capacitive sensor on the flat edge of the ring allows for intuitive control. By tapping and holding, you can begin recording your thoughts immediately, without interruption from an AI assistant. If the assistant does respond, a single tap silences it. The hardware is designed to be waterproof at launch, so using it in the rain or during a workout won’t be a concern.

Beyond its note-taking capabilities, the Stream Ring also functions as a media controller. A single tap can play or pause music, a double-tap skips to the next track, and swiping adjusts the volume. This secondary functionality adds value, ensuring that even if Sandbar’s AI services were ever discontinued, the ring would remain useful rather than becoming electronic waste. Notably, the device does not include health-tracking sensors, which are common in many other smart rings available today.
