A major national roadshow is bringing the future of artificial intelligence directly to Australian innovators, with Avnet and AMD joining forces to launch the “AMD on Wheels” tour across Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Adelaide. This initiative delivers hands-on access to high-performance AI solutions and sustainable technology, aiming to accelerate the country’s adoption of intelligent systems.
This collaborative effort combines Avnet’s extensive product lifecycle knowledge with AMD’s advanced computing technologies. Building on the success of Avnet’s earlier AI Tech Day events throughout the Asia-Pacific region, the roadshow is designed to foster stronger industry partnerships. It focuses on speeding up Australia’s transition toward an economy supported by smart, energy-efficient infrastructure.
Research from the Tech Council of Australia and Microsoft indicates artificial intelligence could add up to AUD 115 billion each year to the national economy by 2030. This expansion is fueled by productivity improvements and AI-driven advancements in healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and professional services. The growing impact underscores the importance of investing in local AI capacity and sustainable tech development. The “AMD on Wheels” program will bring together engineers, researchers, and industry partners through live demonstrations, technical workshops, and practical applications that go beyond individual components to offer complete, integrated solutions.
The tour begins with an Opening Ceremony on November 7 at the University of Sydney, then travels to Canberra, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Each event includes keynote speeches from top industry and academic figures, detailed technical sessions, interactive product demonstrations, and a lively expert panel.
The program aims to spark new ideas by highlighting AI uses with direct relevance to Australia’s economic ambitions. Participants will see how Avnet and AMD are applying high-performance computing to develop solutions for Smart Healthcare, improving diagnostic processes, and for Smart Agriculture, increasing operational efficiency. The tour will also address Smart Cities, illustrating how technology can help create more responsive and efficient urban spaces.
Tan Aik Hoon, Avnet’s Regional President for South Asia, Korea and Avnet United, remarked, “The intersection of AI and sustainable technology is transforming global industries and presents a tremendous growth opportunity for Australia. For over one hundred years, Avnet has supported innovators in overcoming obstacles and achieving breakthroughs. With ‘AMD on Wheels,’ we are bringing our worldwide ecosystem directly to Australia, providing local engineers, researchers, and startups with the sophisticated tools and knowledge required to turn ambitious AI concepts into tangible, sustainable outcomes.”
Steven Fong, Corporate Vice President for Asia Pacific & Japan Embedded Sales at AMD, added, “AMD is committed to supplying the high-performance, energy-efficient computing that drives the next generation of AI innovation. By partnering with Avnet, we are placing our latest processors, FPGAs, and specialized knowledge directly into the hands of Australia’s engineering talent, researchers, and students. Together, we are empowering them to lead the way in developing groundbreaking solutions for healthcare, agriculture, mobility, and other sectors, helping build a smarter and more sustainable future for the country.”
