Meta has officially launched its artificial intelligence platform, Meta AI, with full Urdu language support for users across Pakistan. This strategic move aims to make advanced AI tools more accessible and relevant for local communities by integrating the nation’s most widely spoken language. The announcement was made during the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, which was organized in partnership with Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication.
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima praised the initiative as a cornerstone of the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision. She emphasized that providing AI services in Urdu is a vital step toward ensuring digital inclusion reaches every segment of society. “Pakistan is advancing toward a future where technology empowers all citizens,” Minister Fatima stated. “Our collaboration with Meta underscores a mutual dedication to AI education, innovation, and inclusivity. Introducing Urdu in Meta AI guarantees that no one is excluded from the ongoing digital revolution.”
Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, echoed this sentiment, reaffirming the company’s focus on aiding Pakistan’s public institutions and academic bodies. “Our objective is to assist educational and government organizations in accelerating digital transformation through meaningful AI integration,” he explained. “With Meta AI available in Urdu, local communities can now interact with cutting-edge technology in their native tongue, fostering a more inclusive approach to digital progress.”
During the event, Meta also unveiled a specialized guide named “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama.” Developed alongside Deloitte and supported by the MoITT, this resource illustrates how Meta’s open-source Llama AI model can improve governance, public service delivery, and data sovereignty. The document includes case studies of successful implementations from various Asia-Pacific countries, including Pakistan.
In a parallel effort to boost educational outreach, Meta announced the launch of an AI Literacy Program. This initiative is a joint venture with the Higher Education Commission, the National Computing Education Accreditation Council, the MoITT, and atomcamp. The program is designed to equip 350 university instructors from non-computer science backgrounds with foundational AI skills, thereby preparing their students for the demands of a digital economy.
Another significant introduction was the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program. This endeavor seeks to link Pakistan’s public sector institutions with Meta’s newest technological solutions and international best practices, encouraging stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving digital innovation.
This rollout highlights Meta’s ongoing commitment to enabling AI accessibility in local languages, positioning Pakistan as an emerging contributor to the global digital landscape. It marks a notable advancement in the country’s pursuit of a smart, inclusive, and innovation-led economic future.
