Fitbit Premium users in the United States can now access a public preview of the new AI-powered health coach, which was first announced in August. This feature, built on Google’s Gemini platform, will initially roll out to Android subscribers, with an iOS release scheduled for later this year. The AI assistant, named “Coach,” aims to serve as a comprehensive personal trainer, sleep advisor, and wellness guide, helping Fitbit stand out in a competitive market.

During a recent Google event, the company demonstrated how Coach can build custom routines based on individual goals, preferences, and available equipment. For example, if your aim is to run longer distances without losing your breath, the AI will design a personalized fitness plan with specific suggestions and realistic targets. It also adjusts your workout in real time as you provide feedback, and can modify your schedule if an injury occurs later in the week.

Beyond fitness, the AI analyzes sleep habits and offers insights for improving sleep quality over time. The launch coincides with a refreshed Fitbit app design, organized around four main tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health.

A demo video released by Google explains the function of each tab. The Today tab acts as the central dashboard, displaying key metrics, weekly cardio load data, and other relevant statistics that users can customize at any time.

The Fitness tab contains workout plans and important metrics like cardio goals and average weekly steps. It’s worth noting that certain features, such as nutrition tracking and cycle logging, are not yet available.

In the Sleep tab, users can monitor their sleep patterns and receive AI-generated insights to help improve rest quality. A summary at the bottom of the screen aggregates data from the previous night, including periods of wakefulness.

Finally, the Health tab provides a quick overview of vital signs, including breathing rate, blood oxygen saturation, and resting heart rate.

To try the Coach preview on Android, an active Fitbit Premium subscription and a compatible Fitbit or Pixel Watch device are required.
