The popular video editing platform VSCO has rolled out a significant update, introducing advanced AI image editing capabilities and support for high-resolution RAW files. This expansion includes non-destructive editing and intelligent content-aware region detection, positioning the app to better serve both enthusiasts and professional photographers. These new tools are accessible through a dedicated section named “AI Labs,” which also incorporates an AI-driven object removal feature comparable to those offered by tech giants like Google and Apple.
Users can simply highlight or circle any unwanted element within a photo, and VSCO’s system will automatically replace it with content that blends seamlessly into the surrounding background. According to the company, this is made possible by sophisticated “intelligent area detection” technology, which ensures that resolution and color integrity remain uncompromised after an object is erased. VSCO emphasizes that its removal tool outperforms many competitors by delivering greater precision and preserving fine details, making it especially valuable for professional-grade work.
Another upcoming addition to the AI Labs suite is a feature called Upscale, designed to enhance image resolution and sharpen details without sacrificing overall composition or clarity. These AI functionalities are powered by Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext model, reflecting VSCO’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge machine learning.
Available exclusively to VSCO Pro subscribers, the AI Labs tools can be accessed through the VSCO Studio app on iOS. The Pro membership is priced at $12.99 per month or $60 annually, and there are no usage restrictions on how often members can take advantage of the AI editing features.
Eric Wittman, VSCO’s CEO, commented on the update, stating, “From the very beginning, VSCO has championed authentic creative expression and offered photographers diverse pathways to achieve their goals. We recognize the profound impact AI is having on photography, and our focus is on delivering AI tools tailored to help our community reach new levels of creative excellence while honoring the artistry behind every image.”
In recent months, VSCO has steadily enriched its ecosystem to stay competitive in the crowded editing software market. Back in May, the company introduced an AI-powered whiteboard to facilitate collaboration between photographers and their clients. Last year, it launched a marketplace to connect photographers with potential projects, and earlier this year, it unveiled Workspace, a tool aimed at simplifying booking and schedule management for creative professionals.
