Abu Dhabi has launched a groundbreaking AI-powered health platform designed to revolutionize population health management across the emirate. This initiative, known as the Population Health Intelligence platform, was introduced by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi in partnership with Microsoft during GITEX Global 2025. It represents a world-first in deploying artificial intelligence for managing health at such a comprehensive, emirate-wide level.
Her Excellency Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, emphasized the broader vision behind this development. She stated that their objective extends far beyond simply providing medical care. They are actively working to establish a new standard for healthy longevity by merging data, preventive strategies, and technological innovation. By leveraging advanced tools, fostering international cooperation, and implementing forward-thinking policies, Abu Dhabi aims to construct a resilient health ecosystem. This system will proactively identify needs, reduce inequalities, and help every individual reach their full health potential. Dr Al Ghaithi expressed pride in Abu Dhabi’s leadership role, demonstrating how health systems can achieve remarkable outcomes when guided by data-driven insights and a clear sense of purpose.
The platform functions as a digital twin of Abu Dhabi’s healthcare ecosystem, integrating varied information from clinical records, lifestyle patterns, and environmental factors. This creates a unified, real-time overview of the population’s health status. Such a tool allows health officials and medical professionals to detect potential risks sooner, forecast new health trends, and model the possible effects of various health initiatives. Structured around two main components, Predict for generating insights and Prevent & Act for implementing interventions, the platform continuously evolves. It learns from incoming data to formulate evidence-based strategies specifically suited to the unique demographic and health characteristics of Abu Dhabi.
Utilizing sophisticated analytics, AI agents, and geospatial modeling, the Population Health Intelligence system enhances decision-making processes. It helps optimize the allocation of healthcare resources and strengthens the emirate’s ability to intervene early in potential health issues. Through forecasting risks, running simulations of future health scenarios, and enabling precise interventions, the platform works to increase healthy life expectancy. It promotes a shift toward proactive, preventive healthcare, ultimately adding more years of good health for everyone living in Abu Dhabi.
Amr Kamel, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, commented on the significance of this launch. He described it as a transformative advancement for the people of Abu Dhabi. By tapping into the capabilities of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, the community gains access to proactive and personalized healthcare solutions. This platform facilitates the early identification of health risks, supports the rollout of targeted prevention initiatives, and ensures that all residents benefit from smarter, data-informed health decisions. The ultimate aim is to prolong healthy living and improve overall life quality for the entire population.
The platform will initially concentrate on addressing obesity and cancer, using AI-generated insights to craft early intervention methods, improve preventive measures, and lessen the overall impact of these diseases. This achievement brings to fruition the shared vision previously announced by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and Microsoft, which centers on embedding artificial intelligence and data analytics into the core of healthcare planning and action.
The introduction of the Population Health Intelligence platform solidifies Abu Dhabi’s standing as an international hub for health innovation. It serves as an environment where state-of-the-art technologies are developed, tested, and expanded to produce tangible, positive results. Through this significant milestone, the Department of Health continues to reinforce its position as a global frontrunner in intelligent healthcare, utilizing data and collaborative efforts to build a healthier future for everyone.
