AI startups like Prezent are acquiring services companies to leverage existing customer bases and combine AI tools with domain expertise for better enterprise customization.

Prezent, an enterprise-focused AI presentation platform, has secured a substantial $30 million investment to fuel an acquisition strategy, beginning with the purchase of Prezentium, a services-led presentation company co-founded by Prezent’s own founder. This latest funding round was spearheaded by Multiplier Capital, Greycroft, and Nomura Strategic Ventures, with additional backing from current investors such as Emergent Ventures, WestWave Capital, and Alumni Ventures. Headquartered in Los Altos, California, the startup has now raised more than $74 million in total, achieving a valuation of $400 million.

The company has already executed its first acquisition, bringing Prezentium into the fold. This move represents a consolidation of founder Rahul Mishra’s ventures, as he was a co-founder of Prezentium and has served as its non-operating president. The two companies already maintained a partnership, with Prezent utilizing Prezentium as a go-to-market channel. The acquisition effectively merges these related businesses, providing Prezent with direct access to Prezentium’s established client base within the life sciences sector, thereby accelerating the distribution of its AI tools.

The market for AI-powered presentation builders is crowded, featuring competitors like Presentations.ai, Lica, Gamma, and Chronicle, all of which share Accel as an investor. While many rivals target consumers and small businesses, Prezent is committed to an enterprise-focused approach, concentrating on large corporate clients. Although the company has expressed interest in expanding into finance and manufacturing, its immediate focus remains on the life sciences and technology industries.

Rahul Mishra, who previously worked at McKinsey, explained the company’s philosophy. “Numerous tools aim to make presentations visually appealing. Our goal is to deliver the premier tools for business communication. We see presentations as one of the final frontiers in business that hasn’t been automated. We aim to assist data scientists and designers in communicating more effectively through this automation,” Mishra stated. He emphasized that Prezent is taking a specialized approach, training its AI models specifically for the unique presentation needs of different industries.

A key component of Prezent’s strategy involves embedding presentation engineers within client organizations. These specialists, who possess deep industry knowledge and familiarity with Prezent’s offerings, help employees adapt to using AI tools for creating presentations. “The reality of AI in the enterprise is that while the technology can accomplish many tasks, it cannot teach people how to use it. That’s precisely why we deploy presentation engineers into companies, to help our customers adopt our product more rapidly,” Mishra added.

This acquisition trend is not unique to Prezent. AI startups are increasingly acquiring services companies to leverage existing customer relationships and enhance customization for enterprise clients. For instance, digital avatar startup D-ID acquired Berlin-based video startup Simpleshow, and Google-backed legal tech firm Lawhive purchased a UK-based law practice. These strategic moves allow AI companies to combine their technological capabilities with the domain expertise and client service strengths of established service providers.

Looking ahead, Prezent intends to forge additional partnerships and pursue acquisitions in related fields such as executive communication coaching, medical writing, and communication consulting firms. Mark Terbeek, a partner at Greycroft who has invested in multiple Prezent funding rounds, shared his perspective. “We look for areas where businesses have historically relied on expensive agencies to meet a need, and where AI tools are now emerging to perform those same functions. We believed Rajat and Prezent were intensely focused on solving specific customer pain points in business communications. Additionally, we observed the software evolving rapidly to align with end-user workflows and deliver significant time savings,” he commented.

Future product development at Prezent will center on enhanced personalization, enabling the AI to learn and adapt to the individual communication style of each user within an organization. The company also plans to introduce multimodality features, allowing users to create presentation decks using text, voice, or video inputs. Furthermore, Prezent aims to incorporate digital avatars into its presentations, following in the footsteps of companies like Synthesia and D-ID.
