The research firm anticipates this incident will result in employee terminations, highlighting growing corporate vulnerabilities linked to advanced AI implementations. Senior analyst Paddy Harrington pointed out that generative AI tools have already been connected to multiple security incidents since their widespread adoption began three years ago. He emphasized in a recent blog post that as businesses increasingly develop agentic AI workflows, these challenges are likely to become more frequent and severe.
Harrington explained that without proper safeguards, autonomous AI agent networks might prioritize operational speed over accuracy, particularly during direct customer interactions. While staff members could face job losses following an AI-related security failure, he noted this would be unjust since such breaches typically stem from a series of systemic breakdowns rather than individual errors. To address these risks and prevent unfair blame, security teams should support business units in creating agentic applications with essential security measures from the outset.
The analyst recommended implementing Forrester’s AEGIS framework, Agentic AI Enterprise Guardrails for Information Security, which concentrates on six fundamental components. These include governance, risk and compliance protocols, identity and access management systems, data security and privacy protections, application security measures, threat management capabilities, and Zero Trust architecture principles. This structured approach helps organizations secure operational intent, monitor agent behaviors through access controls, and track data origins with appropriate security tools.
Forrester isn’t alone in expressing concerns about agentic AI risks. Earlier this year, Gartner projected that within two years, AI agents will enable threat actors to compromise exposed accounts 50% faster. Meanwhile, security firm Check Point confirmed that malicious actors are already leveraging agentic AI technology for harmful purposes. The company recently reported that threat groups are misusing an AI-powered red team tool called Hexstrike-AI to speed up reconnaissance activities, develop exploits, and deliver malicious payloads.
