The upcoming Streaming Media 2025 conference, set for October 6-8 at Santa Monica’s Fairmont Miramar, promises deep industry insights with keynotes from major players like Netflix and BET+. Conference Chair Andy Beach and Streaming Media Editor-in-Chief Steve Nathans-Kelly recently previewed what attendees can expect from this year’s must-see sessions.
Beach expressed enthusiasm about the lineup, noting, “I couldn’t have asked for a better collection of folks to come together for chats.” The event kicks off with Netflix’s Head of Live Technical Launch Management, Brett Axler, who will join Beach for a fireside chat titled “Launching Netflix’s Live Era.” They plan to explore how Netflix constructed its live streaming infrastructure and the lessons learned from transitioning from on-demand to live operations. Beach emphasized that live streaming presents unique challenges compared to pre-recorded content, adding that Netflix has significantly expanded its live offerings with around 110 new events planned for next year.
On the final day, Jason Harvey, EVP and General Manager of BET+, will deliver a keynote titled “Storytelling That Sticks: Predictive Modeling With Cultural Connection.” Harvey’s talk will focus on how BET+ balances data-driven personalization with culturally authentic narratives. He will present a case study on merging human creativity with automation and discuss how artificial intelligence is being used to enhance storytelling and viewer engagement.
A late addition to the agenda is Seth Hallen, founder of Hallstone Ventures, who will present “How Economic Disruption Is Forcing a Media Infrastructure Reset.” Beach described Hallen as a well-connected figure in Hollywood who will address economic challenges within the streaming industry, specifically monetization models, rights management, and outdated infrastructure. His talk will outline emerging solutions, including blockchain, AI-native tools, and new creator platforms, offering a strategic look at rebuilding the media tech landscape.
When asked what sets Streaming Media apart from larger events like IBC or NAB, Beach highlighted its specialized focus. “Where we stand out against the other shows is a true focus on the streaming space,” he said. The conference offers a targeted environment for professionals involved in content creation, distribution, and evolving business models. Its smaller scale encourages meaningful networking, with many valuable connections forming informally between sessions.
