Google’s new Ask Gemini AI assistant aims to solve that problem, offering real-time support by answering questions and summarizing discussions directly within the platform.
Currently rolling out to select Google Workspace customers, Ask Gemini draws information from meeting captions, shared documents like Google Docs or Slides, and even public websites. It can highlight key decisions, track action items, and provide personalized summaries for users who missed parts of the discussion. However, these features only work when the host has enabled the “Take Notes for Me” function during the call.
Privacy remains a priority, Ask Gemini’s responses are visible only to the individual user, and like captions, all related data is deleted once the meeting ends. Participants receive a notification when the AI is active, and while it’s enabled by default, hosts or administrators can choose to turn it off at any time.
For now, the tool is limited to desktop use and supports only English-language meetings, though Google has confirmed that additional languages will be added soon. The initial release is available for Workspace Enterprise Plus, Enterprise Standard, Business Plus, and Business Standard subscribers. Broader availability, including for Business Starter and other tiers, is planned for early 2026 after further refinements based on user feedback.
It’s important to note that, like all AI systems, Gemini can occasionally make errors, including misidentifying people or misinterpreting context. While it’s a powerful tool for catching up quickly, reviewing meeting recordings or notes afterward may still be advisable for accuracy.
