Finding your next favorite song just got a whole lot easier. Spotify is introducing smart filters that let listeners sort their music libraries by mood, activity, or genre. This new tool also helps users discover playlists, audiobooks, and podcasts, and can even launch a session with the platform’s AI DJ feature.

The rollout began recently and is currently available to Premium subscribers using mobile and tablet apps in several key markets, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa. Spotify expects the feature to reach all eligible users within the coming weeks.

This launch is part of a broader push by the company to enhance personalization. Over the past few months, Spotify has introduced a number of tools aimed at making the listening experience more tailored to individual tastes. In April, the platform introduced AI-powered playlist creation, and May brought new playlist management options along with the ability to design custom cover art. Users can also interact with the AI DJ for music recommendations and enjoy an upgraded version of the popular Discover Weekly playlist.

While these features are designed to keep users engaged, some listeners feel the app is becoming overly complex. The addition of social elements, such as messaging, podcast comments, polls, Q&As, and stories, has made the interface feel crowded to certain subscribers. The inclusion of music videos and video podcasts has further contributed to a layout that some compare to TikTok or YouTube.

Criticism of Spotify’s cluttered design is not new. Longtime users have expressed frustration with the constant stream of new features, arguing that it complicates navigation and distracts from the core music experience. For some, the platform’s growing reliance on algorithmic recommendations has been the final straw, leading them to explore alternative streaming services.

Despite these concerns, Spotify’s user numbers continue to climb. The company recently reported a 11% year-over-year increase in monthly active users, bringing the total to 696 million. Paid subscribers also grew by 12%, reaching 276 million worldwide.
