Meta Announces Job Cuts in Reality Labs Division

Meta has announced layoffs within its Reality Labs division, although the exact number of employees affected has not been disclosed. The reductions primarily impact teams working in Oculus Studios, Meta’s internal game development unit for Quest headsets, as well as staff involved in hardware projects.
Among the titles influenced by these job cuts is Supernatural, a VR fitness game acquired by Meta for over $400 million. Meta successfully defended this acquisition against a government antitrust lawsuit that sought to block the purchase. A statement on the official Supernatural Facebook group explains that “these changes are meant to help us work more efficiently on what the future of fitness could be.”
Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton commented on the restructuring, noting that “some teams within Oculus Studios are undergoing shifts in structure and roles that have impacted team size.” Clayton emphasized that these adjustments aim to enhance the efficiency of Studios in developing future mixed reality experiences for a growing audience while continuing to deliver quality content. Meta remains dedicated to investing in mixed reality experiences, including fitness and gaming, and is committed to providing exceptional experiences.
