Capcom is taking proactive measures to guarantee a polished PC launch for Resident Evil Requiem, aiming to sidestep the technical difficulties that marred the release of Monster Hunter Wilds. The developer faced significant backlash over performance problems with its recent monster-hunting title, which it has publicly acknowledged. A highly anticipated free update scheduled for December 16th is intended to address these long-standing concerns. This experience appears to have informed the company’s current development strategy, with a clear focus on delivering a stable product from day one.
During a recent earnings report Q&A, Capcom explicitly differentiated the two projects. The company stated, “Resident Evil Requiem differs from Monster Hunter Wilds in terms of gameplay, system architecture, and network features.” They further reassured fans by confirming, “At present, we do not anticipate similar risks. We are developing the game to provide a smooth gaming experience across a wide range of PC specifications.”
Scheduled for a global release on February 27th of next year, Resident Evil Requiem marks the ninth core installment in the legendary survival horror franchise. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. In a significant move, it will also launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on the same day, alongside ports of Resident Evil Biohazard and Resident Evil Village. This multi-platform approach, particularly the addition of the new Switch hardware, presents an expanded optimization challenge for the development teams.
Interestingly, the game’s origins are quite different from its final form. Recent reports reveal that Resident Evil Requiem was initially conceived as an online multiplayer open-world experience. While the core concept has shifted, the final product is said to retain “some” elements from that original vision. Producer Masato Kumazawa reflected on this transformation, noting, “Looking at the game when it was multiplayer, the horror part was very mild. However, in that build, we made a game that was fun to play. But we looked deeply into this game and wondered if a fan of the franchise would really like this, so we thought they […] probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much.” This introspection ultimately guided the project back toward its survival horror roots.
