The highly anticipated Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A arrives on December 10th for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, bringing an exciting new way to power up your team beyond previous limits. Alongside this major expansion, a fresh side mission becomes available immediately for all players.
While details about Mega Dimension circulated before Z-A’s launch, Nintendo has now fully outlined its contents. This expansion introduces a collection of newly discovered Mega-Evolved Pokémon and other species not typically encountered in Lumiose City. These additions arrive through mysterious spatial distortions forming around the urban landscape, creating an alternate reality known as Hyperspace Lumiose.
Guided by Ansha, a skilled doughnut chef, and her companion, the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa, trainers will explore these strange distortions. Hoopa’s powers activate after eating one of Ansha’s special donuts, transforming spatial anomalies into portals to hyperspace. Ansha crafts these treats using Berries, with each variety offering different effects such as powering up your Pokémon. More potent Hyperspace Berries prove especially useful when confronting the powerful wild Pokémon inhabiting this strange dimension, some of which can exceed the standard level cap, reaching Lv. 100+.
Two newly confirmed Mega Evolutions headline the expansion. Mega Chimecho creates six smaller copies of itself; their overlapping, resonating echoes produce what Nintendo describes as an intense sound-wave attack capable of overwhelming any opponent. Meanwhile, Mega Baxcalibur generates a massive back blade composed of ice energy, allowing it to cleave or smash nearly anything in its path. The Mega Stone required to evolve Baxcalibur is earned by advancing in online Ranked Battles through the Z-A Battle Club.
Though the DLC introduces compelling new features, it comes at a significant price. Mega Dimension costs £24.99 on the eShop, half the price of the original Switch game. For those playing the base game, a Diancite Stone is now available via the Mystery Gift feature. Taking this stone to the Looker Bureau unlocks the “Shine Bright like a Gemstone” side mission, offering a chance to catch the Jewel Pokémon, Diancie.
