AEMotion’s innovative microcar blends motorcycle agility with car safety, offering urban commuters a fresh solution to traffic congestion. This unique four-wheeled electric vehicle, developed by a French startup, tilts like a bike in turns while providing the enclosed protection of a traditional car. Designed for two passengers seated in tandem, it combines the best of both worlds for city navigation.
Compact yet powerful, the vehicle measures just 2.35 meters long and 79 centimeters wide, weighing around 250 kg with batteries. Its top speed of 115 km/h makes it ideal for urban commuters tired of gridlock. Unlike conventional cars, it features a handlebar instead of a steering wheel, with a reinforced shell, glass doors, and four-point seatbelts for safety. In case of impact, crash-resistant structures and energy-absorbing foam provide passive protection similar to airbags.
What sets this microcar apart is its patented tilting mechanism, allowing it to lean up to 35 degrees in curves for smoother handling at higher speeds. While it requires a standard driver’s license, additional training is recommended for optimal control.
For power, the base model delivers 200 km of range, with optional swappable battery modules adding 70 km each, extending total range to 340 km. The 45-horsepower electric motor handles city and suburban trips effortlessly. Practicality isn’t overlooked, behind the passenger seat lies 150-200 liters of storage, enough for groceries or a carry-on suitcase.
AEMotion plans to launch the vehicle through long-term rentals starting at €200 per month, including insurance and maintenance. Direct sales aren’t yet on the table, with pre-production models expected by year-end and full-scale production slated for 2028.
With urban drivers spending over 200 hours annually stuck in traffic, this microcar aims to ease congestion by offering a narrower, lighter, and easier-to-park alternative. Its blend of motorcycle maneuverability and car-like security could redefine city mobility in the coming years.
