Following today’s Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty sat down with Gamertag Radio host Parris to clarify the company’s evolving stance on console exclusives. When asked about the two newly announced exclusive titles, Booty emphasized that the team recognizes how crucial exclusives are for building and rewarding the Xbox community, but decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. He confirmed that major multiplayer games will keep launching across all platforms, while the fate of single-player titles remains less certain.
Booty stated: “We want a reason for people to get on board with Xbox, we want them to have a reason to buy an Xbox, we want them to have a reason to be an Xbox fan. At the same time, we want to reward all our players that have been with us for a long time. We know that exclusives are important, and that’s why we’ve got Gears coming in 2026 and Clockwork Revolution coming in 2027.” He added that big multiplayer and live service games will continue to be multiplatform, and any promises already made to players will be honored. “We’re going to make the right decision and not the fastest decision. We’ll keep thinking about this going forward. Our principle is, when we announce the date, we announce the platforms. So it’s going to be case-by-case, but we’re going to be clear.”
For those who missed the showcase, both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution were confirmed as Xbox console exclusives, meaning they will not launch on PS5 or Switch 2. Booty’s comments suggest more exclusives are likely down the road, though big multiplayer titles will remain available everywhere. During the same event, Halo: Campaign Evolved and Fable were both reaffirmed for PS5, aligning with Booty’s pledge to honor existing commitments.
